Acupuncture at Northern Life Wellness
Acupuncture is the insertion of thin sterile filiform needles into acupuncture points located on various and strategic parts of the body to help balance your body’s energy (known as qi). Acupuncture facilitates your innate healing ability which aids in regulating your nervous system.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
During your appointment, your acupuncturist will complete a full body assessment and relate the symptoms you are experiencing that may be causing imbalances in your body’s function. Together, we (the practitioner and patient) will collaborate to find a course of treatment best suited for you.
What to wear to my acupuncture appointment:
For your acupuncture appointment it is best to wear loose fitting clothing including shorts, tank tops or a loose t-shirt. Areas of the body that commonly need to be accessed during an acupuncture appointment are elbows to fingertips and knees to toes. If you choose to wear pants or long sleeves it’s advised that they are easy to roll up without cutting off circulation. If you are coming from work please feel free to bring a change of clothes as you will have time to change prior to starting your acupuncture session.

Other Modality Add-ons
(Modality add-ons will be determined by the acupuncturist after 1st session)
- Ear seeds: Ear seeds are seeds from the Vaccaria plant that are placed on specific points on the ear. Once in the ear they are self-massaged for 3-5 days providing acupressure to support the effects of acupuncture in between sessions.
- Cupping: Cupping is commonly used to relieve muscle tension and alleviate pain. The localized suction created by the cups helps lift and separate tight muscle tissue and fascia which helps increase blood flow and decrease pain and tension.
- Gua Sha (Dermal Friction): Gua Sha is a technique that uses a smooth-edged tool to gently scrape the skin to the point of redness. Gua sha helps release stagnant energy (qi) in the body by improving blood flow to tight areas.
- E-Stim (Electrical Stimulation): E-Stim is a mild electrical current that passes between acupuncture needles in gentle pulses to certain acupuncture points in order to enhance pain relief. E-Stim is great for chronic pain, muscle spasms, sports injuries and more.
